Now, the remaining players can try to knock the thrower’s ball or rock out of the circle by tossing their own balls or rocks at it. The thrower can also try to defend their ball by hitting or dodging the other players’ throws.
The round continues until either the thrower’s ball is knocked out of the circle, or all players have run out of balls to throw. If the thrower’s ball is successfully knocked out of the circle, they must take the remaining balls and try to get as close to the center as possible. If all players run out of balls, the thrower gets to keep their ball in the center and earns a point.
Scoring
The scoring for The Crater Game is simple:
- 1 point for the closest ball to the center after all players have taken their turn
- 1 point for each successfully defended ball that stays in the circle
After each round, a new thrower is chosen based on who earned the most points in the previous round. The game continues until a player reaches a predetermined number of points (10 is a good number for a shorter game, while 25 or more is better for a longer game).
