Welcome to Lab 7 of our game development series! In this lab, we will be creating a new game called Cold Nights. This game is about surviving the harsh conditions of a winter night, where players will face challenges and make tricky decisions to make it through till morning.
Game Concept
The concept of Cold Nights is to put players in a survival situation where they have to make decisions to stay warm, find food, and keep a fire going while facing unpredictable obstacles.
The game will offer a realistic experience, with the player’s body temperature decreasing as the night progresses, forcing them to make quick decisions that could mean life or death.
Game Mechanics
The gameplay will revolve around resource management, decision making, and strategic planning. Players will have to gather resources such as wood for the fire, food, and warm clothes to stay alive. They must also make decisions on whether to travel and risk losing warmth or stay put and conserve resources.
To keep the fire going, players will have to balance adding enough wood to keep it burning but not too much to waste resources. They will also have to be mindful of their body temperature and take actions to warm up when it gets too low.
Obstacles
The game will throw various obstacles at players, such as dangerous animals, sudden snowstorms, and finding food and shelter. These obstacles will require quick decision-making and careful planning to overcome.
Players will also have to be mindful of their actions, as everything they do will have consequences. For example, chopping down too many trees for wood may lead to a lack of shelter, or hunting all the nearby animals might leave players with no food for the night.
Rewards
The game will have different levels of difficulty, where players can earn in-game rewards based on how well they do. These rewards can include better warmth-providing items or improved survival skills, making it easier for players to survive in subsequent rounds.
