The Noonie Game is a simple yet entertaining game that can be played with friends, family or even by yourself during the often-boring hours of the afternoon. It is a game that requires minimal setup and materials, making it perfect for impromptu afternoon hangouts or lazy weekends.
What You Need
All you need to play the Noonie Game is:
- A deck of cards
- A flat surface, such as a table or floor
- A group of players (anywhere from 2-6 players is ideal)
How to Play
The objective of the Noonie Game is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards. The game can be played in rounds, with each round consisting of multiple turns. To start the game:
- Shuffle the deck of cards and deal out the entire deck evenly among all players.
- The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and the turns continue clockwise.
- The first player lays down a card from their hand that matches either the suit or number of the card on the top of the discard pile. For example, if a 5 of hearts is on top of the pile, the player can lay down any other heart card or any other 5 card.
- If the player does not have a matching card, they must draw a card from the deck and add it to their hand.
- If the player has a card with the same number as the top card on the discard pile, they can play that card and ‘bomb’ the pile, forcing the next player to pick up a set number of cards from the deck depending on the number on the card played. For example, if a player plays a “bomb” card with the number 3, the next player must draw 3 cards from the deck instead of playing a card from their hand.
- The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round and receives no penalty points for any leftover cards in other players’ hands.
- The remaining players count the penalty points for their unplayed cards, which are then added to their score for the round.
- A new round begins with the player to the left of the previous dealer starting as the new dealer.
Tips and Tricks
The Noonie Game is all about strategy and luck. Here are some tips to help you improve your chances of winning:
Play your high cards first: In order to decrease your penalty points, it’s best to get rid of your high-value cards first. This decreases the chances of other players forcing you to draw more cards.
Save your “bomb” cards: Try to save your “bomb” cards, such as 2s, 3s, or 4s, for when you are closer to getting rid of all your cards. This increases your chances of winning the round.
Pay attention to what cards have been played: Keep track of the cards that have already been played, as this can help you strategize your next moves.
Communicate with other players: If you’re playing with friends or family, it’s always helpful to communicate and work together to get rid of the cards with the highest penalty points.
