How to Play

To play The Slater Game, you will need a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Shuffle the deck and deal out the cards evenly to all players. The dealer starts the game by flipping the top card from their deck and placing it facedown in the center of the playing area. Each player in turn then flips their top card over and places it on top of the center pile.

Here’s where the twist comes in: instead of calling out “Jack!” when a Jack card is played, players must instead call out “Slater!” If a player is the first to call out “Slater!” they win the entire center pile and add it to their own deck. However, if multiple players call out “Slater!” simultaneously, a Slater Challenge ensues.

Slater Challenge: All players who called out “Slater!” must quickly place their hand on the center pile, and the last player to do so must take all the cards in that pile and add them to their own deck.

The game continues in this fashion, with players flipping over their top cards and calling out “Slater!” until only one player has cards left in their deck. The player with all the cards in their deck at the end of the game is declared the winner!

Tips and Tricks

As with any card game, there are some tips and tricks that can help you up your chances of winning The Slater Game:

  1. Pay attention to the cards that have been played. This will give you a better idea of which cards are still in play.
  2. Stay alert and don’t hesitate to call out “Slater!” when you see a Jack card being played.
  3. Watch out for sneaky players who may try to trick you into calling out “Slater!” when they don’t actually have a Jack.
  4. Practice your reflexes and speed to give yourself an edge in the Slater Challenges.

Variations

There are a few variations that can be added to The Slater Game to make it even more exciting:

  • Wrap-around: In this version, if a player flips over an Ace or a King, the next card must be played in the opposite direction (e.g. clockwise if the Ace is flipped or counterclockwise if the King is flipped). This adds an extra layer of challenge and keeps players on their toes.
  • Double or Nothing: Before starting the game, players can agree that anytime a player wins a Slater Challenge, they can choose to either take the entire pile or challenge another player to a Double or Nothing round. In this round, the first player to correctly call out “Slater!” wins all the cards in the center pile, and the losing player must also give them one card from their own deck.

In Conclusion

The Slater Game is a fun and addictive twist on the classic card game Slapjack. It’s perfect for game nights with friends and family, and can provide hours of entertainment. So gather your deck of cards and give The Slater Game a try!

Remember to have fun, and don’t be afraid to get a little competitive!
